The Fred Kurz 10 Mile is the oldest continuously held running event in Minnesota, first held in 1962 and 1963 as the 10 Mile Handicap Road Race, and renamed in 1964 to honor Fred Kurz. Fred was a charter member of the Minnesota Distance Running Association. A resident of St. Paul, he attended Murray High School and the University of Chicago. He was killed in a bicycle-automobile accident in 1963 at the age of 20. Learn more about the race’s history here.
